On Thursday, June 19th our beloved horse Cocoa was taken to the UC Davis Veterinary hospital. She became critically ill with a mysterious, life threatening intestinal problem which required emergency colic surgery. She came through the surgery well but her recovery is slow.
WE NEED YOUR HELP. Her surgery and after care are very expensive. We appreciate any amount you can donate to COCOA'S CAUSE. Total cost of surgery and time spent in the intensive care unit will be about $10,000 to $12,000.
All donations would be greatly appreciated.
Cocoa has been an integral part of the Xenophon program for 6 years. She has an uncanny ability to decipher the level of disability of her rider. We recently nominated Cocoa for the NARHA Horse of the Year award. Here is a quote from a caregiver for one of our students:
“While I am neither a rider nor familiar with horses, it is clear to me that Cocoa is a truly special horse. My child had never ridden a horse before, or spent time around horses, yet Cocoa’s calm demeanor made her easily accessible.
Cocoa impresses me as a particularly patient horse. My child’s enthusiasm can make her movements unpredictable and inconsistent. Yet Cocoa stays on task with great sureness. Cocoa has won our affection and has become her special friend. Cocoa has enabled her to learn new skills, gain self-confidence, strengthen physically, improve her behavioral and communication skills and have a great deal of fun!”
Thank you in advance for your help.
