Diamonds Are Forever Pool Party – Only James Was Missing

Xenophon was fortunate to have some incredible live auction items at this year’s gala. From a private home concert sponsored by Xenophon’s Board of Directors, to an authentic Danish Dinner, to a tour of the Federal Reserve, to a Bond Pool Party. We’ve brought you the details of some of these fantastic events to entice everyone to attend the gala and bid on these one-of-a-kind opportunities. Here is another to wet your palette…

Ann and Greg Welch hosted a Bond Pool Party for 12 people at their beautiful home in Alamo. It was an evening their guests are not soon to forget. Guest arrived to a champagne greeting, that included pictures in a 2015 Aston Martin car. The only one missing in the driver’s seat was James himself. And what would a Bond-themed dinner be without a martini bar? Custom-crafted lemon basil martinis were served alongside the traditional Bond martini choice, all of which were served shaken, not stirred, of course. Those fancy martinis paired well with the scrumptious caviar bar and passed appetizers that began the evening’s gourmet faire. Filet mignon and asparagus with hollandaise sauce came next, paired with French wines. A cigar bar and Port wines rounded out the theme of the evening.

It was quite the night for the 12 lucky folks who were able to join. Thank you to Ann and Greg Welch for providing this wonderful evening.

Back In The Saddle Again

We have been back in session for a month, and staff and horses are happy to see the smiling faces of our riders once again. We welcome those riders and their families who are just starting with us this season. We welcome back our returning riders. It was such a treat to see the faces of the children as their mounts came forward. Go-Go, Ozzie, Ranger, Starlight, Kiwi, and Dinero were ready to go and seemed happy to be back at their jobs. Ruby joined the herd a week ago and is back at work also, after her winter in Castro Valley.

St Mary’s High School Comes for “Enrichment Week”

St. Mary'sFor the fourth year running, St. Mary’s High School in Berkeley sent a group of students to participate at Xenophon for their “Enrichment Week”. The week is designed to give the students community experience outside of the classroom. The students go out locally and internationally to participate in non-profits. Xenophon has been fortunate to host this wonderful group of high
school students. A group of 8 teens came to the center for the day. They learned about grooming, leading and what it takes to keep our therapy horses healthy and sound. Their day here incorporates other jobs and activities relative to the running of a therapeutic riding center, and culminates in the participation in the afternoon lesson program. We are happy to say the group leaves with their heads swimming with knowledge about what it takes to run a therapeutic riding center.

Our 2016 Season Is Starting!

The horses are tuned up and the center is spruced up! We are ready for the start of our 2016 season on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. The staff and the horses have missed the faces of students, parents and volunteers, and we are ready to have the center be the bustling place it usually is during the week. Parents, time is drawing short to return your 2016 forms to Danielle. Volunteers, sign-ups are open on Salesforce, so get on the schedule. We need you! We look forward to seeing everyone and to a wonderful 2016 season.

Volunteer Training This Sunday

Our beginning of the season Volunteer Training Day will be this Sunday, February 7, 2016, from 9:30-1:00 pm. We know it is Superbowl Sunday and we promise to have everyone out of the center in time for superbowl parties. We wouldn’t dare expect you to miss the biggest game of the year, or the commercials. The volunteer training day is designed for new and experienced volunteers alike. There is something for everyone. We have a morning filled with interesting and informative workshops designed and to train and educate you about all aspects of the center. Come learn new things, meet new people, or reconnect with those you haven’t seen for awhile. The weather will be great and the staff will be waiting.

red box
‘Twas two hours before lessons and throughout the center

The staff was beginning to run helter and skelter
Danielle with her phone
Pressed tight to her ear
Was checking the weather
…To cancel, her fear.

Christine ran the arena her whip tight in her hand
Stomped her feet at ‘lil Kiwi, who blithely ignored her commands
In the office all toasty
Could be found the director
Writing checks, making copies
Quite buried in paper

Volunteers were arriving, pulling helmets and mail
“Oh my goodness”, yelled Jan, “Are the animals on the trail?”
Jim Hogg, he arrived
The arena to smooth
But his tractor was gone
Where did Massey get moved?

It appears that the compost began running amuck
And Sam upon emptying in the pasture was stuck
Oh heavens, Oh golly
The lessons draw near
And all is chaos
Or so it appears

The Trox small can’t be found, the clipboard is gone,
We’re supposed to take photos! Will Jim Pire be along?
Our PT and OT
Appear to be lost
There’s a sprinkler now leaking
Ranger’s foot’s in the box

When what to staff’s wondering eyes should appear
But Fix It Jim Taylor with all of his gear.
He sets right to workgreen bow
With a wink and a nod,
Fixin sprinklers, the hay box
Doing Christine’s odd jobs

And as time ticks on by, it becomes quite apparent
The staff need not panic, for now it is evident
The volunteers with their smiles
And amazing good cheer
Have it all under control
There is nothing to fear

The PT and OT were found in their shed
The clipboard and phone now are hung
They all made it happen, they pulled it together
The children arrived and the lesson’s begun
The arena is set
The mail it is out
The horses are saddled
And each’s been turned out

So thank you dear people for all that you do,
Week after week when you come
You make it all happen, the lessons, the magic
You quietly get it all done
We love you, we need you
You keep us all sane
So thanks and good wishes
‘Til we see you again!
